In December it will be 20 years, but it all seems like yesterday.
A small company called KHORS AIR was founded in October and registered in the December of 1990, in the Zalizhnychnyi District, Kiev, with the main purpose or Air Cargo Transportation.
The first flight on the route KIEV-CHIMKENT was flown by a Soviet Test Pilot Hero, on an AN-32 Cargo Aircraft. We saw that as the starting moment for the operation of our new Air Company.
In December 1990 IL-76 was received for a long term lease from the Nizhniy-Tagilskiy Institute of Metals and Alloys. After developing an active role in the transportation of cargo, Khors straight away took the lead in the Air Cargo Transport sector in the Ukraine.
In the August of 1991 Khors Air had a flying detachment with the ministry of Mechanical Engineering.  This further showed the success of the company in the Air Cargo Transport sector.

The first international flight that was performed in December 1992, the route was Kiev-Rotterdam on an IL-76 Captained by Cpt. Levin A.I.  The flight routes were diverse- Kamchatka and Amsterdam, Khabarovsk and Luxembourg, Vladivostok and Ostend.
Air Foyle, a UK based company proved to be very helpful in the organisation of cargo transport, by providing broker services in the search for cargo agreements worldwide.
In November 1993, the first IL-76 arrived in Angola and began a program that would stretch 8 years with the Angolan Government. During that period three IL-76 and three AN-12 aircraft worked over there on a constant basis. Difficult conditions provided great opportunities for the crews to learn hope to cope with many scenarios, giving them the learning base for safe operations.
Starting back in 1994, Khors Air Company was actively participating in an International Program, ‘Reaction for Fuel Discharges’.  For this Program an IL-76 and a C-130 were based in Luton, UK in order to monitor oil spills from the air.
Khors was also one of the companies to transport Kupons (Ukrainian monetary unit) from the UK to Kiev.
The types of cargo were as diverse as the routes and geographical operations of the company; transportation of fish from Indonesia to the Philippines using two AN-12’s, transportation of fish on IL-76 from Windhoek to Bilbao, transportation of Ostrich form Johannesburg to Germany, and transport of cows from Israel to India.
A large part of the history of the company is taken up by the work done for the UN and WFP. Sudan and Liberia, Congo Brazzaville and Port Noir, Nouakchott and Libreville, although this is not the complete list, it is just a few of the areas that were covered by our Cargo Aircraft.
Khors Air Company has always and will continue to strive at expanding its operations.  In December 2005 there was an attempt to start use of B757-200 on the routes Kiev-Jakarta via Dubai and Male. Due to some objective reasons, the company had to halt these routes, but this did not deter nor end the desire of the company to start passenger transportation.

By doing summer charter flights on leased aircraft, company gained the experience in charter operations.
In 2000 the decision was made to acquire the first of our passenger aircraft, a DC9-51 with seating for 125. pax This aircraft started working in Hungary, and then moved to Egypt for the winter contracts. From April 2001 the first charter flights started in the Ukraine. After the DC9 showed itself ideal for charter operations, by the January of 2002 it was decided to update the fleet with the leasing of the MD-83 with 157 seats.
The inappropriate competition and protectionist policy of the Ministry of Transport forced the company to seek job opportunities in other countries. That served as a foundation for the contract with Aero Asia in Pakistan, who wet leased from us, three DC9-51, and three MD-83 to be used in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. The reliability of the DC and MD aircraft exceeded all possible expectations.
The constant search for new partners, new markets and new ventures took Khors to Cambodia in late 2006 from where the exploration of the South-East Asia has begun.
Now that the fleet is growing so well, it was decided at one of the share holders meetings that we should start operations in the Ukraine once again. In March 2007an MD-82 with 165 seats from Boeing Capital Corporation, was delivered to the Ukraine. With the help of a new company, Wind Rose, acting as our tour operator we have been able to provide passenger loads for our aircraft in the Ukraine.
Later on one of the aircraft was acquired by Wind Rose Air Company.

Despite the crisis, during 2008 and 2009 Khors was able to expand the fleet and was able to increase the number of passengers transported on our aircraft. In 2009 the company started to operate the scheduled flight Kiev -Simforopol from Zhulyany airport and was operating charter program through the summer season.
In December 2010 Khors will be 20 years old. The goals for next 20 years are further to expand the fleet size, to organise its own training center, and run own maintenance facility. As they say, sky has no limit.
